Family Centered Treatment Recovery
Family Centered Treatment-Recovery offers intensive, home-based, trauma-informed treatment tailored to families affected by substance use. It addresses the underlying causes of substance use and its impact on family stability, attachment, and safety, including the need for out-of- home placement. By strengthening family bonds, FCT-R promotes healing and long-term recovery, addressing the unique and complex needs of its target population, particularly those struggling with substance use disorders (SUD) including Opioid Use Disorder or Polysubstance Use Disorder.
FCT-R is an innovative practice and systems-of-care model that weaves together the evidence-based Family Centered Treatment® model and best practices in substance use treatment. FCT-R addresses not only substance misuse, but also the underlying family systems and trauma histories that contribute to and maintain the cycle of addiction. Distinctive features of FCT-R include: SUD specific family system interventions, integrated trauma treatment, Certified Peer Support Specialist, contingency management, random drug screens, implementation teams and participation in a community or treatment group of the family’s choice.
FCT-R keeps the family together over the course of treatment, preventing out-of-home placement and promotes the reunification of the family system where an out of home placement has already occurred. FCT-R is based on the EBP Family Centered Treatment (FCT) which has been an ILOS in North Carolina since 2015 and helped promote permanency goals and reduced need for out of home placements.
